I have over the last 5 years been generally very happy with the quality of the medical care. I have, however, noticed that over this time it has now become impossible to get an appointment. When I do need to see a doctor I would not describe it as urgent and my health concern might not be something that needs a doctors attention that day. However, appointments cannot be booked in advance. I work in London so I often find myself having to take a day off to phone the surgery before 8am that day in hope of getting an appointment. Again this morning I was not successful and will have to repeat this process again next week as and when I can juggle my work commitments. Why is it that the surgery cannot advance book a restricted number of appointments? The service offered at School Street has also been significantly reduced in recent years. I would however, like to note that the chemist dispensary within the Gold Street surgery is a great facility and appreciate this additional service.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear of your difficulty. As of today's date appontments are available to book up to the end of March. We open at 7am on Monday mornings and have pre-bookable appointments available with a GP, nurse or health care assistant. There is also a new weekend service at Saffron Walden Community Hospital. We are currently increasing the doctor service at our branch surgery in Great Chesterford. Please contact the Practice Manager directly with any concerns. Thank you

As mentioned by others, this surgery used to provide an excellent family doctor service. Not so now. There has been a massive level of staff turnover in the last three years. The doctors who remain appear inexperienced and dismissive. If someone provided this level of client care in any other business, they would face the sack or lose their clients. The doctors also do not appear to have the time and/or motivation to get to the bottom of any issue. As others have said, getting an appointment is difficult but even when one has secured such, it seems equally difficult to engage the doctors in one’s care. Very disappointing.

We are very sorry to hear this. It is true that 3 partners have retired but Dr Iqbal has been a partner here since 2001, and Dr Girgis-Hanna since 2007. Dr Brown became a partner after working here as a Salaried GP, and Dr Noga is our newest partner and trained at this practice. All of our GP's have a wealth of experience and attend regular updates. Please contact me, Practice Manager, directly if you wish to discuss further. Thank you

I agree with the problem of getting an appointment & wonder why some of the doctors are not there all the time. the other problem is the door. for people like myself who are disabled & elderly trying to get thru the door is very difficult. why is not auto? I also wonder why help is not offered without having to ask for it. patients dont always know what is available.

A few years ago I would have recommended this surgery, to all friends and family. Unfortunately that is not the case now. It's very difficult to get an appointment on the day, unless you have time to sit and redial the surgery number from 8am for 10 -15 minutes solid, and then when you do get through there are often no appointments available. Most patients like continuity but trying to see the same doctor twice is almost impossible. If you are lucky you may be able to book an appointment online in advance but they are very few and far between. When I do get to see a doctor, and I only go if I really have no other option, I feel a bit like I'm on a conveyor belt. Get called in. What's the problem? Goodbye. There is no time to discuss anything if it's not specific to the reason for attending the surgery. The notices say if you wish to discuss more than one thing book a double appointment or come back again. Getting one appointment is extremely difficult let alone a double. Doctor Iqbal is a nice doctor but I always feel rushed with him. Doctor Hanna is a lovely doctor, makes you feel like you're not wasting her time speaking to her.

Thank you for your comments. We regularly review our appointment system. We have recently recruited two new salaried GP's, and have recently changed our Nurse Practitioner appointments. On-line appointments are available for GP's. Unfortunately we are unable to provide this service for nurses as the length of their appointments depends on the procedure required. We make a number of appointments available for on the day booking but, at the toime of writing, it is possible to book a routine appointment as far ahead as the end of January 2016, or this weekend at Saffron Walden Community Hospital. Thank you

It is extremely hard to get an appointment here even if you do phone or turn up at 8am or just before. The receptionists are often very nosy and patronising apart from a couple. I do however have to say that if you are fortunate enough to get an appointment, most doctors are very attentive and understanding (especially Dr Iqbal and Dr Howard.) On the other hand Dr Journeaux makes all the appointments seem like a task, is dismissive and and doesn't explain, meaning I have had to see other doctors and use their time. The surgery is very clean, with an up to date interactive check in system and the nurses are all lovely and very helpful.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry if you feel that the receptionists are nosey. Our staff are encouraged to try and help patients by ensuring they are seen by the correct clinician which can be a nurse practitioner, nurse, health care assistant or even a member of our administration team in some cases. We will discuss this with them at our next in-house training session, scheduled for December. We are aware that privacy at the reception desk may be a problem and display notices advising that patients may be seen privately on request. We are also going to put a marker on the floor in front of reception desk so that patients waiting are further away. We hope this will help. Thank you
